INEOS has been building the Grenadier for almost two years now, working to fill the gap left when Land Rover moved the new Defender to a more modern platform. The goal of the Grenadier was to go back to a simpler, classical body-on-frame SUV, eschewing the high-performance engines for a reliable, undertaxed BMW six-cylinder and focusing on utility instead of luxury. Now, with some concept cars on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it seems like they're looking to move more towards satisfying a greater mix of consumer demands, with V8 engines, portal axles, and luxury interiors all on test.

One of the most iconic scenes of the British seaside is a lifeboat station staffed by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI), with a dark blue Defender parked outside, waiting to deploy the inflatable rescue boat to save a life in peril on the sea. It's a scene repeated all around Britain's coast. But with the Defender out of production since 2016, these vital vehicles are only getting older, and need some refreshing to get more years of service in and around the salty sea. Land Rover Classic Works did just that for one of these icons, refreshing a mid-2000s model for many more years of work.

Land Rover Classic is bringing ten iconic vehicles with connections to the Royal Family to this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18. A reprise of a display at the Goodwood Revival last year, it’s the first time most of these vehicles will have set tires on American soil. The display will pay tribute to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the vehicles will tell the story of how Land Rover and the crown intertwined over her 70-year reign.

While Land Rover recently transitioned to a "House of Brands" setup that put their three nameplates on equal footing as distinct brands, one brand that had long been left for dead was Freelander. A game-changer when it came out in 1997, it faded into oblivion in 2016 when it was replaced by the Discovery Sport. Now Freelander is coming back, as an EV-only brand built in China with JLR's joint venture with Chinese automaker Chery.

Like in past years, organizations in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada can submit a video telling the story of their mission and why the Defender would help them execute it better to enter the competition.

The Defender 130 got an update this week with captain chairs in the third row, each of the two seats sporting an inboard armrest. Those armrests each have a feature that has been a distinct Land Rover feature since the 1980s: dial-adjustable armrests. Ever since their debut on the Range Rover Classic in 1982, the twist-to-adjust function is one of those quirky things that makes a Land Rover a special vehicle to daily drive.

The new spicy Defender variant competes in the high-performance off-roader space alongside Ford Raptors and Mercedes-Benz AMG G63. There’s more to come between now and July, but if you’re thinking about an OCTA, you have to get serious, because there are only 1,000 vehicles allocated for 2025 in North America.
