A pack of Land Rovers led by former Camel Trophy racer Tom Collins are approaching the final stretch of a 5000 mile off-road journey along the legendary Trans America trail from North Carolina to Oregon.
The expedition features four Land Rover LR4 vehicles, some determined drivers and a smattering of Land Rover journalists determined to embody the very essence of the Land Rover motto, “Go Beyond.” Reports indicate that the journey has enjoyed very few setbacks, save a few blown tires which may be attributed to the fact that the LR4s tackled the trail with stock, all-season tires. Despite the the nuisance of swapping out new tires, no mechanical issues have been reported.
The trip was a long time coming, as Collins began lobbying support from Land Rover corporate two decades ago. Collins perseverance paid off, and it figures to pay off once more when the group completes their journey in North Bend, Oregon.
