Land Rover is keen to show the word that its flashiest “go fast” ride is still capable of handling itself in all types of terrain. Those little pictures around the big dial in the center console? They aren’t there just to look pretty. They’re there for a reason. The Range Rover Sport SVR is bred from the same cloth as the other vehicles in the Range Rover line, and to prove it, Solihull has put out a press release and video of the 550 horsepower beast going through its paces not just on pavement, but in a variety of conditions.

Over the last several blogs we have been reporting on JLR’s bold plan to double their UK output, become a world leader in Electric Vehicle development and create 10,000 new jobs in the process. In November, CEO Ralf Speth pitched a proposal to the Coventry city council. At the time of this writing, the Coventry Telegraph is reporting that a decision on the plan is imminent and could come as early as this Thursday.

Another vid worth sharing, though not quite as professionally done, is the UK Telegraph’s “History of Land Rover” piece. This one goes straight from Red Wharf Bay to the creation of the Range Rover over 20 years later. Then it skims along, quickly glossing over the Discovery, Camel Trophy, and right into Freelander, all within the first half-minute.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some Land Rover Evoques (along with some Jaguar XF Sedans) are being evaluated following reports of injuries to consumers caused by vehicles rolling away while parked.

The NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) received seven reports of rollaways for model year 2012-2014 Land Rover Evoque SUVs and 2013 Jaguar XF cars. An estimated 39,000 vehicles may be affected, according to the report on NHTSA’s website.

Check out this historic Land Rover documentary - It’s a 1990’s marketing film featuring renowned explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes narrating the 50-year (at the time) history of the Land Rover marque. The film (link below the break) begins with archival footage from post-war Britain, and old home movies of the first Land Rover prototypes, including narration by Stephen and Patrick Wilks, whose father and uncles created the first Land Rover in 1948.

Earlier this year, Jaguar Land Rover launched twin lawsuits against Bombardier Recreational Products, (BRP) over the Canadian manufacturer’s use of the name “Defender” for one of its Can-Am brand off-road utility all-terrain vehicles.

The lawsuits were brought in England’s High Court of Justice, and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan here on this side of the pond.

Both cases revolve around Land Rover’s claims that Bombardier’s use of the name deliberately seeks to trade on the unique attributes and world-wide success of the renowned Defender brand.

21 years ago, when I bought my first Land Rover, it wasn’t lost on me that it would add a whole new dimension of enjoyment to my Winter activities. Anyone who has driven a Land Rover in snowy conditions knows that they are enormously well suited to the task. I grew up in the Northeast US, and my first car was a mid 70’s rear wheel drive Pontiac. “Teeth cut” in that fashion, I have always been comfortable driving in the snow, and usually enjoy it. Having Land Rovers to play with just adds an extra layer of magic to the whole experience. I’m quite sure that I am not alone in that perspective.

Earlier this year, Jaguar Land Rover announced an innovative new tech startup known as InMotion.

InMotion functions as its own independent company, that focuses on the development of mobile apps and other on-demand services in the transport and travel sector.

From its headquarters in a renovated industrial building in London, the firm engages with consumers and other entrepreneurs in North America, Europe, and Asia, to identify ways to improve the “user experience” in the worldwide mobility sector.

For those readers fortunate enough to travel down under, (or those who live there, please write if you do) here is an interesting roadside attraction you might want to visit.

On Duke’s Highway, in the town of Keith, South Australia, there is a Land Rover on a pole. Yup. A Land Rover. On a pole. That’s it.

“Why would anyone put a Land Rover on a pole?” you may be inclined to ask.

As many of you may already know, there is a new Land Rover magazine for North America. The first issue of Alloy+Grit hit my mailbox a week or so ago. Now that I’ve had a chance to look it over, I thought I would share some thoughts.

My first thought, holding the actual magazine in my hands, is “Finally!”

Finally, not just because I have been eagerly awaiting its release since first hearing about it about this time last year. Finally, not just because it is the first North American magazine to feature Land Rovers. Because it isn’t. You can read about them in Overland Journal, and you can read about them in the glossy American 4x4 mags on very rare occasions. There was another all-Land Rover venture some years back that some might recall, that didn't last very long.

Finally…because this is the first Land-Rovers-only, North America-only, true full-color “glossy” magazine, that truly seeks to cater to every segment of the Land Rover market here.
