The Trophy Edition new Defender and American Defender Trophy event are coming back, after the success of the first American event last year. This year the truck is a Defender 90, with only 250 to be sold between the USA and Canada.
The Defender 90s have a version of the Defender 110 Trophy wrap from last year, with a yellow reminiscent of classic Camel Trophy Sandglow. Unlike last year’s trucks, these have sections of white on the hood, grille, and tops of the doors – perhaps reminiscent of the white Defender 110 Works V8 Trophy trucks they’re paired to for this year’s final Trophy event in England.
The trucks are based on the P400 X-Dynamic SE specification, with the six-cylinder mild-hybrid engine. They come with a generous set of options, including air suspension, a tow receiver, cold climate package, the standard and advanced off-road packages, and the Extended Black Pack styling. It’s also got a full suite of accessories: roof rack, ladder, winch and winch kit (on a small number of trucks – supply chain crises strike again and will keep winches off most trucks), mud flaps, air compressor, and hefty rubber mats.
This year, the American Trophy event is at Land Rover’s Experience Center at The Equinox in Manchester, Vermont. Opened in 1997 as the Land Rover Driving School, The Equinox was Land Rover’s first foothold in off-road education in America. There are 90 two-person team slots in the event, available on a first come, first served basis to buyers. The winning team, as judged by a judging panel, will go to the final Defender Trophy competition in Eastor, England in 2023. There’s also fifteen berths available to returning competitors from last year’s Trophy event, with a separate trip to the UK for a “unique off road driving experience” for the winner.
The Trophy edition is available now, at a cost of $95,000. There will be 230 trucks available in the United States and just 30 in Canada.
