Not too long ago, Tata Motors was seeking upwards of 1 billion pounds in financial aid as it struggled to keep Jaguar Land Rover afloat. Fast forward two years and the outlook for Jaguar Land Rover has improved dramatically; rather than requesting a 1 billion-pound loan, the automakers are reporting 1 billion pounds in profits.
In fact, Jaguar Land Rover has been selling so many vehicles that their production demands have exceeded engine supply. For this reason, Jaguar Land Rover has been discussing the need for a new engine plant. “Because Jaguar Land Rover have been selling so many cars, they have been going back to Ford saying ‘can we have another 5,000 engines, can we have another 10,000?” says Roger Maddison, a leading car industry official for the Unite union.
Locations mentioned for the new Jaguar Land Rover plant have included South Wales, Wolverhampton and India, though none have been confirmed. When asked for comment, a Jaguar Land Rover representative had the following to say: “We have an ambitious plan for growth and there are many matters related to that. But we have no comment beyond that.”
