James Bond film fanatics are probably aware that the next Bond installment, Skyfall, is due in theaters at the end of this year. But do Land Rover enthusiasts know that their beloved Defender is playing a leading role in the film?
That’s right. The Defender will be featured prominently in the film, driven by Naomi Harris’s character, “Eve.” Better yet, it sounds like the Defender will be involved in some pretty exciting scenes. “We are really going to test that car, do things it’s not normally designed for… the Defender is going to work very, very hard,” said Skyfall producer Andrew Noakes. What isn’t the Defender normally designed for? Jaguar Land Rover supplied the film with 70 vehicles so we can imagine the crew had some fun “experimenting.”
The Defender is not the only Land Rover vehicle featured in Skyfall either. The Range Rover Evoque will also make an appearance, a role that is sure to be mutually beneficial for both the film producers and Jaguar Land Rover.
Bond movies have always been known for featuring (and promoting) the coolest automobiles - Aston Martins, Alfa Romeos, Lotus, Mercedes, Rolls Royce – to name a few. Land Rover vehicles have been fixtures in James Bond films from the beginning with the first Rover appearance coming from a Series II cameo in Dr. No (1962). Since then, several different Land Rover models have made their way into Bond films including the Range Rover Classic, Land Rover Series III, Rover 800-Series (ok, that might not count), Range Rover P38, and most recently, the Range Rover Sport HSE.
