Jaguar Land Rover has formed a multi-year strategic partnership with tech company NVIDIA that will see the NVIDIA DRIVE software platform integrated into every new Land Rover product launched from 2025.
NVIDIA DRIVE is a full-stack tech solution for automation and artificial intelligence solutions for automakers. It provides technology to power the active safety, automated driving and parking systems, and driver assistance systems in modern connected cars. It can also handle driver and occupant monitoring and advanced visualization of the interior of the vehicle.
The centralized brain of the system is the DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip, which will power the safety, security and networking systems. The “central nervous system” is the DRIVE Hyperion setup. This will tie into JLR’s in-house developed systems.
This new partnership is an integral part of Land Rover’s Reimagine strategy and its overall push towards new tech solutions. Using a partially off-the-shelf solution for their connected technology will also likely help with JLR’s reliability concerns.
NVIDIA is no stranger to this level of connected technology. After inventing the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in 1999, which revolutionized computer gaming, they have leaned heavily into Artificial Intelligence, crypto mining architecture, and more in the past few years.
