Now HERE is something you don't see everyday. A 120-ton sculpture featuring 5 Land Rover models.
What you’re looking at is a 40-foot wide, 110-foot tall sculpture weighing 120-tons and featuring five Land Rover models. It was created by sculptor Gerry Judah, who is clearly the go-to guy for such things. He has created other eye-popping displays featuring Ferrari’s and Mercedes, but nothing on this scale. (If you look closely, you'll spy a red light at the top of the sculpture, to warn approaching aircraft!) A Land Rover enthusiast (clearly), Judah created the sculpture for the Goodwood Festival of Speed to celebrate the brand's 60th anniversary and was unveiled last night by Lord March.
"Land Rover's global success and enviable reputation has been built over the last 60 years on the manufacture of robust and dependable vehicles that can tackle any driving condition in any terrain – and this was the inspiration for the spectacular Central Feature Sculpture. For me, this is one of the most awe-inspiring and memorable displays we have ever had at the festival. It's arguably our most artistic too, with its naturally rusted steel structure. It is certainly magnificent," commented Lord March at the reveal last night.
"The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a prestigious, international motoring event which is beautifully executed – a perfect environment to showcase the premium brand values of Land Rover," said John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK.
Not to be outdone, the folks at the Agourra, California 60th anniversary celebration had their own form of sculpture on hand. Maria Sharapova stopped by for a celebrity chat.
Which form of sculpture is more appealing is a matter of personal taste.
