Land Rover announced that it has now built 2 million Defenders and Series Land Rovers. The two-millionth truck came off the assembly line at Solihull in May of this year, assembled by a team of celebrities who all bear some connection to Land Rover's flagship vehicle.
Among the team of luminaries who contributed a turn of the wrench were Dr. Ralf Speth, Chief Executive of Jaguar Land Rover, Reality TV star and adventurer Bear Grylls, and actress and Born Free Foundation founder Virginia McKenna OBE.
The vehicle, a Silver Defender 90, will be publicly unveiled by auction house Bonhams at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, being held June 25-28. Special features on the Defender 90 include custom upholstery, custom "2,000,000th" logos, and an engraved plaque signed by all those who had a hand in its construction. After being displayed at various locations this summer and fall, it will be sold at auction in December, timed to coincide with the winding down and closing of the Defender assembly line at the Solihull factory.
