A few weeks ago, Land Rover reallocated their UK-based Defender press fleet to the British Red Cross, in light of the COVID-19 crisis and the Red Cross’ need to access remote people. Since then, as the Coronavirus has spread, they have branched out into more forms of relief, both with loaned vehicles and online.
Other International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have been loaned Jaguar Land Rover vehicles around the world, to help with their needs in this crisis:
South Africa: 11 vehicles donated to South Africa Red Cross “to help prevent the spread of illness through community outreach, research and the distribution of supplies.”
UK: 14 vehicles donated to the West Midlands NHS Ambulance Service “to test staff who are isolating with coronavirus symptoms.” JLR is also producing NHS-approved protective visors, with plans to build 5,000 a week in the UK.
The British Red Cross received a further 105 vehicles, on top of the New Defender press fleet which was re-allocated to them a few weeks ago.

Spain: 18 vehicles donated to the Spanish Red Cross, “to help them reach people in especially vulnerable areas.”
Land Rover has also taken to social media in this time where people aren’t driving their vehicles much of anywhere. There are several marketing initiatives at the moment which Americans can enjoy:
#TakeABreakWithLandRover: This series, appearing across social media platforms, uses Land Rover’s brand ambassadors – including the US Ski and Snowboard Team – to help people keep up with their adventurous, Land Rover-ish lives while they quarantine at home.
Zoom Virtual Backgrounds: With a huge number of us using the video chat app Zoom to communicate right now – including several Land Rover club virtual meetings I’ve participated in over the past few weeks – one of the most fun features is the virtual backgrounds you can have green-screened to hide your unsightly living room.
Coloring Pages: An activity that adults and kids can enjoy together (you still have your colored art pencils from your adult coloring book phase, I presume), there’s a collection of downloadable PDFs of the New Defender on February’s Kaokoland Expedition.
#RoverWatching: Land Rovers show up in a lot of movies and TV shows. You’re watching a lot of movies and TV shows right now. See a Land Rover? Tag it with #RoverWatching!
