Land Rover has teased the idea of developing a production hybrid model for years now. No longer a pipe dream, the company will finally debut two production hybrid Range Rover vehicles at this years Frankfurt Auto Show on September 12th.
A Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid are slated to launch in the beginning of 2014, offering consumers a fuel-efficient, eco-friendly off-road machine worthy of its name and pedigree. Each Rover will pair a 3I SDV6 with an electric motor capable of generating 340 horsepower. Of course, one of the main goals of a hybrid vehicle is improved gas mileage, which both Rover models plan to deliver. With an estimated fuel economy of almost 37/mpg, the hybrid Range Rovers will far exceed anything available in a diesel or petrol model.
Never passing up an opportunity to drum up some positive press, Land Rover plans to feature the hybrid Range Rovers in a nearly 10,000 mile journey along the famous Silk Road, with a final destination of Mumbai, India.
