Recent reports indicate that Land Rover will be replacing the LR2 (or Freelander) with an all-new, Land Rover Discovery Sport. Readers may be familiar with some of the spy shots included in this story, as they have been making the rounds within the blogosphere for some time now, albeit with little context.
At this year’s Geneva Motor Show Land Rover announced plans for their all new Discovery family of vehicles, and it appears that the Discovery Sport will be one of the first vehicles introduced as part of the new lineup. The Discovery Sport shares a frame with the current Range Rover Evoque, and should borrow the same nine-speed transmission. The photos suggest that the Discovery Sport will be a fair bit bigger than the Evoque, thought the styling is somewhat similar.
As far as power is concerned, we imagine the Discovery Sport will also borrow the 4-cylinder turbo found in the Evoque with an optional V6 (currently found in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport) available for added power.
