It’s possible that zipping sideways at high speed around an icy recreation of the Silverstone Raceway in a late-model, 400-plus horsepower supercharged Range Rover isn’t your thing. Though, if it isn’t, you should seriously reconsider that position. Until that time, there is now another option for those who want to relive the winter-parking lot antics of their misspent youth, but prefer to do it in a vehicle that was built while your parents were still in elementary school.
Now, you can hop over to Arjeplog in northern Sweden ad visit Land Rover’s new ‘Classic Ice Driving’ experience. Held at the company’s winter testing facility there, the program offers drivers the chance take turns behind the wheel of a number of different Classic Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.
Jaguar vehicles on-hand include the XJ, MKII, MKVII and XK150, along with those 4x4 icons of British motoring, the Series I, Series II, Series III and Range Rover Classic.
Like all Land Rover experience facilities, specialist-trained instructors are there to guide you. And if you get tired of trying to four-wheel drift a clunky old Series One with rock hard 20 year old bias ply tires, you can try out one of JLRs more recent models. Be warned though. In my experience, going from 77 horsepower to 400+ may result in impulse purchases and uncontrollable smiles.
The Jaguar Land Rover Classic Ice Academy will run over three days, beginning early in 2017. At 3,000.00 Euro, the experience includes two nights’ Hotel Silverhatten, Airfare is not included.
