Land Rover has announced class-leading improvements in off-road ability for Range Rover models.
From the first Series One in 1948 to the most recent Range Rover models, Land Rover’s vehicles have always excelled in “out of the box” off-road prowess. Once again they have proven that dedication to lofty standards of luxury and comfort has not swayed this core value of the marque.
The most remarkable of the new features is the industry-first All-Terrain Progress Control System (ATPC). ATPC, as the name suggests, controls the forward progress of the vehicle over varying terrain. In other words, the driver inputs the speed and the system moves the vehicle forward (or in reverse) at the selected speed without pedal input from the driver, while optimizing traction and “maintaining composure.”
This allows the driver to focus on more pressing issues such as steering the vehicle and avoiding potentially damaging obstacles, and should reduce driver fatigue as well.
At this time there is no information provided as to whether this feature will be expanded to other models in the lineup.
The same press release also announces power and fuel economy upgrades to the current line of Range Rover engines. These include diesel models not currently available in the US, but also the 3.0 Supercharged V6 Petrol that will now deliver 1.9% better economy.
Lastly, there will be a Head-Up Display featuring vehicle speed, gear position, shift indicator and more. The driver will be able to choose which information to display.
