Land Rover news headlines are so often concerned with new models, vehicle specs or corporate moves that sometimes some really great stories about the company are overlooked. For example, Jaguar Land Rover of South Africa was recently granted the Cheetah Award for their efforts in helping the endangered Wild African Dog.
The Cheetah Award is the most prestigious award that can be given by the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), a non-profit organization, “dedicated to conserving threatened species and ecosystems in southern Africa.” With only 450 Wild Dogs in existence today the African canine is currently a threatened species, meaning it is likely to be at the brink of extinction in the near future. Land Rover has helped by providing Defender vehicles to help serve the conservation efforts in the field.

“Having hardy, reliable and safe vehicles in the field takes a lot of strain off the field workers and frees up funds for other field expenses. The support that Jaguar Land Rover South Africa offers to the EWT’s Carnivore Conservation Program is invaluable and the are passionate donors who, over and above supplying the vehicles, do a lot to increase the profile of African Wild Dogs throughout the region.”
The Wild African Dog may not hold much sentimental value for citizens of North America, but the philanthropic work of Land Rover of South Africa exemplifies a commitment to service that is at the heart of both the Land Rover and Defender brand.
