The collection is invaluable to the Classic restoration programs run by both Jaguar and Land Rover. The cars are more than just icons of history, to be consigned to a museum for static display. They are a virtual 3D library from which the 80 specialist technicians and engineers employed in the operation can source information about parts that are otherwise no longer available.
The £7 million, 150,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility contains 54 work bays. The restoration team uses 3D scanning, computer aided design, and other cutting edge tools to breathe new life into these vehicles that define the history of both marques, and the British motor industry as a whole.
It is precisely the advent of these advances in technology that have made the Classic program and others like it affordable.
The facility was officially opened in mid-June by JLR chief executive Ralf Speth and boss of the company’s special operations division, John Edwards.
“Classic Works is hugely important to JLR,” said Mr. Edwards. “It’s much more than a building – it’s the heart, and soul, of Jaguar Land Rover Classic for our clients worldwide.”
