The new Defender will be an official partner of the 2021 Rugby Women’s World Cup, to be held in October and November 2022 in New Zealand. After decades of supporting the men’s event, Land Rover is sponsoring the women’s tournament for the first time.
The plug-in hybrid Defender 110 will be the official vehicle of the event, with a fleet working to help run the month-long tournament. The hybrid element will help to emphasize the event’s focus on sustainability, and that theme will continue with Land Rover’s sponsorship of the 2023 men’s event in France.
They will also continue the Defenders of Tomorrow program which was originally announced for the 2023 men’s event. This will bring 52 youth from New Zealand and beyond who will work to both represent the event and its future, and also help direct the post-event legacy of the Defenders and the event itself.
After many years of supporting men’s rugby, Land Rover’s expansion into the women’s game shows the growth of the sport on the global stage and the company’s dedication to diversity and inclusion.
