On April 23rd, Prince William and Katherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed their third child, Prince Louis, to the world. Now a family of five, the Range Rovers they’ve been driving for the past few years won’t suffice, and so they’ve upsized to a seven-seater Discovery 5.
The Royal Family has a very long association with Land Rover, so the Discovery was an obvious choice. It has been suggested by various people at Land Rover several times that, although they have put third rows into several vehicles over the past few years, the full-size Range Rover will never, ever be offered with one.
The new truck was first seen taking Prince Louis home from the hospital to their home at Kensington Palace nearby.
Previous Royal Land Rovers have been auctioned off for big money – the Range Rover that Will and Kate’s first son, Prince George, came home in sold for £80,000. The Queen’s personal 2002 Defender 110 sold for just over £30,000 in 2016.
With seven full-sized seats, the Discovery should offer plenty of room for the new Cambridge family of five, as well as the requisite nannies and security. For many years it’s been the family workhorse of the brand, and now it gets to show off that capability on the global stage with the world's most famous family.
