Spy Shots of New Range Rover Evoque

Range Rover Evoque Spy Shot

The Range Rover Evoque came out in 2011, setting the design language that trickled into the rest of the Land Rover line. Now it’s time for this game-changing vehicle to get a redesign of its own, taking cues from the new Range Rover Velar, and test vehicles have been spotted in Germany with new features unveiled.

Test vehicles have been running around for a while now, in Britain and beyond, but the latest has had a few more layers of camo taken off. The interior is visible now, as are some more exterior design cues.

The Velar's iconic flush-mounted door handles are carried over to the Evoque, and the fascia seems to take on the flatter, more streamlined design of the Velar that has influenced facelifts of the full-size Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. Though it's not as visible in these latest shots, other spy shots have suggested that the glossy rear trim bar is going to carry over from the Velar.

More has been revealed inside as well, and the touchscreen-focused center stack that has again already influenced the rest of the Range Rover line is here, too, along with a digital gauge cluster. However, unlike many of the other Land Rover models today, there's the more traditional "pistol grip" shifter seen in the Range Rover Sport, instead of the dial selector used in most other models. Is this a sign that Land Rover is starting to return to a more traditional (and some may say more intuitive) shifter setup fleet-wide?

New Range Rover Evoque Interior

The Evoque retains its signature silhouette -- the severely sloped roof at the rear, the wheels tucked deep into big haunches of fender flares.

The new Evoque is due to be on sale within 2019, and may be one of the reasons that the new Defender has been delayed. Though it may not appeal to the Land Rover traditionalist, the Evoque sells in huge numbers and pays a lot of the bills. A new generation, bringing the main cues of the immensely-popular Velar to the lower-priced, smaller model, should jumpstart sales again.
