We received a note a few weeks ago from California-based reader and loyal Atlantic British customer, Scott Janovich. A few years ago we featured Scott’s Callaway P38 Range Rover that he found in a field and restored almost from the ground up.
Scott wrote to lets us know that despite many years of “laying hands” on Range Rover P38s, (he has three of them) his real passion lies with their earlier leaf-spring counterparts, i.e., Series Land Rovers.
Scott looked for several years to find the perfect Series Land Rover of his dreams: an unmolested, all original, Series II 88-inch, and of course it had to be in California and under $1000. Aim high, right?
For a long time, it seemed like this was just too tall of an order and that Scott’s ideal Land Rover just wasn’t too be found. Then one day he got a call. A friend of his had stumbled on a Land Rover while responding to an ad for an old Corvette. Scott eventually went to see it, and this is the story of what he found.
"I looked at the truck, it was exactly what I wanted! Here's the cool thing. I told my buddy I wanted it, he said he would take care of it. A week later, the owner called me and said 'I have an old Land Rover here that belongs to you, when can you pick it up?' I called my buddy, it turns out he traded a stack of solar panels for the old Corvette & the old Land Rover!!! I asked what I owed, and was told 'Nothing.' Of course that day I made the arrangement and went over and picked it up!”
Scott plans to do a complete body-off restoration and it appears from the pictures that the project is well on its way.
“THANK YOU to you and your team at AB, for continuing to supply parts and advice for all of our Land Rover hobbies and daily drivers,” says Scott. “You always answer the phone and are ready to help." You’re welcome of course Scott, Atlantic British loves to help with these kinds of projects. We hope that others will find inspiration from your story and photos. We look forward to seeing more pictures of your progress, and hearing about the adventures you are sure to have with it once it’s finished.
One more thing Scott would like to add, not only was the vehicle located only a block away from his home of 20 years, it was also built the same year and month that his wife was born. Surely this one was meant to be!
Readers, if you have projects you’d like to share with us here at Atlantic British, please write in tell us about it. We’d love to see them!
