New photos have emerged of the next generation Freelander 3 (it's not what you think). The vehicle pictured is believed to be the 2015, and bares a striking resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque.
What will they be calling this vehicle in North America? The "LR3" model name is already taken. Will the "Freelander" name make a resurgence here? I guess we'll see...
The similarities to the Evoque extend beyond the vehicle’s frame and exterior; this new model will also feature the 4-cylinder turbocharged engine currently used to power the Evoque. There has been a lot of speculation about the name of the new model, as Land Rover had floated the idea of creating an “Evoque XL.” While this vehicle resembles what many would consider an extra-large Evoque, early word has it that it will astonishingly carry the "LR3" moniker here in North America and "Freeleander 3" elsewhere in the world. Also worth noting is Land Rover’s plan to do away with the alphanumeric vehicle names, so we seem to have some conflicting reports where model names are concerned. Of course, Land Rover has already used the name "LR3" in North America for the vehicle termed "Discovery III" elsewhere in the world (which has now been replaced by the LR4/Discovery IV). Convoluted and confusing to say the least!.
