Land Rover has published a series of videos showing the 2017 Range Rover Sport being driven at speeds up to 96 mph, down the world famous “Inferno” downhill ski race track on the Schilthorn, a mountain in the village of Murren, Switzerland.
The specially built Sport, driven by former Top Gear stunt driver Ben Collins, formerly known as "The Stig," is fitted with an internal rollcage to provide added safety without obscuring its stock appearance, and has had the airbags disabled since the cage would prevent them from inflating correctly.
Says Collins at the beginning of the video, “The Schilthorn is not designed for cars. Its designed for skiers to go down really really fast. Insane skiers.”
The 510-horsepower Range Rover Sport tackled the nine-mile, 7,000 vertical foot course in 21 minutes and 36 seconds.
The "Inferno" ski run was also featured in a chase scene in the 1969 James Bond film, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Even more appropriate then for it to be used for a stunt using a vehicle that is iconically British.
The video series also includes a behind-the-scenes look to prove that no CGI effects were used.
