Yes...even Land Rovers get stuck on occasion.
Yes...even Land Rovers get stuck on occasion.
It was just last Saturday (November 1) when Roger Proctor drove his Land Rover out almost half a mile from the shoreline looking for fire wood.
But this is Brean Down, one of England's most notoriously deceiving landscapes, with two other vehicles having been rescued (one a Land Rover) last April.
Mr Proctor, from Glastonbury, pictured above, admitted: "I do feel silly for getting stuck but I'd walked out to check the state of the mud and was confident it was OK to drive on."
"Unfortunately, the layer of hard sand on top of the surface gave way and the wheels of my Land Rover sank down to just below the axles. I couldn't reverse or move the vehicle forward."
Brean's beach warden was alerted and Weston Recovery came to his rescue by pulling the vehicle free - and charging him for the service.
And let that be a lesson to all of us. When driving in Brean Down, make sure you knos the beach warden's phone number.
