Jaguar Land Rover is working to turn used EV batteries from the Jaguar I-Pace into energy storage systems (ESS). This new program gives a second life to the many raw materials used to make the batteries and offers a preview to the long-term future of EV batteries as JLR begins to expand the offering of electrified Land Rovers and Jaguars.

The classic Maine Winter Romp Rover event used to be on my personal regular schedule. The last time I went and actually went off-roading was in 2009. Boy, have times changed since then! Winter Romp 2022 was a new era of this iconic event, one of the largest Land Rover gatherings in North America.

The seven non-profit winners of the Defender Above and Beyond Service Awards contest saw their new trucks in Asheville, North Carolina in late January. Each truck has been custom-wrapped and outfitted to the needs of their new stewards, and are heading to their new homes soon.

Renowned South African humanitarian and explorer Kingsley Holgate has headed out on his fortieth Land Rover expedition across Africa and the world, taking several new Defenders from the southern tip of South Africa to the Nordkapp in Norway, ending at the ancestral home of Land Rover in Anglesey, Wales. “From Hot Cape to Cold Cape” will be a 30,000-kilometer adventure from south to north.

Jaguar Land Rover has formed a multi-year strategic partnership with tech company NVIDIA that will see the NVIDIA DRIVE software platform integrated into every new Land Rover product launched from 2025.

They say everything is bigger in Texas. As my friend Chris and I hit our fifth hour of travelling to Big Bend National Park from El Paso, the nearest city with significant airline service and Interstate connectivity, we started to realize this was not just a marketing slogan. The new Defender 130 has broken cover via patent drawings filed by Land Rover. Though it’s been more or less known that a larger Defender with a longer rear overhang was on the way, and there’s been test mules on the road, this is the first totally-unmasked image we have of it.

The annual Dakar Rally is on the go again, in its third year in its new home of Saudi Arabia. This year there are several Land Rovers running the event, including several Bowler race cars in the main event, and a number of vehicles in the Classic category.
