The new Defender has found its way to new owners in America, as the first deliveries began last week. After delays from Covid-19 shutdowns at the Nitra, Slovakia plant where they are built, they made it onto ships, across the Atlantic, and are now making it to their new homes. But if you want to get one, don't expect it to be an easy feat any time soon -- they're in short supply due to demand and the shutdown-related shortages.

After an immense amount of rejiggering of assembly techniques, the first Range Rover built with socially-distant procedures rolled off the line on Wednesday, May 20th.

Land Rover is preparing to start producing vehicles again, after shutting down the assembly lines at all of their European factories in late March due to the coronavirus. Although they will be restarting production, there will not be as many shifts or workers on the factory floor as there were before the outbreak of the pandemic.

Designed with the assistance of the British National Health Service (NHS), they aim to make 14,000 visors a week.

The last weekend of April usually means that Land Rover owners in Northern California are gathering for the annual Mendo_Recce Joe Lucas Not-a-Rallye event. For twenty-five years, "Mendo" has brought together a dedicated coalition of Land Rover lovers from the Bay Area and Northern California, as well as members further afield who drive or fly long distances to attend. Of course, like everything else right now, Mendo XXVI was not held at the usual time due to COVID-19. In place of the traditional gathering, though, a "Virtual Mendo" online event unfolded over the course of the weekend, using technology to create a digital event.

Seventy years ago, in April 1950, the British Automobile & Motor Cycle Show was held at the Grand Central Palace in New York City. Among the models exhibited was the Land Rover, which had not been formally imported to the United States at this point, though some had been sold in Canada. This marked the beginning of high-volume Land Rover sales in the United States.

In February, Land Rover hosted some major automotive journalists on an expedition across Kaokoland, in the northwestern corner of Namibia. Visiting iconic locations like Van Zyl's Pass and the Skeleton Coast, it was the first time a large number of journalists got their hands on Defenders off-road for a proper off-road adventure. On March 25th, the embargo on sharing driving impressions lifted, and media around the globe dropped their stories.
